The KTEL bus from Fira to Santorini's ferry port at Athinios, has no published timetable: it runs to meet the ferries. Buses leave the Fira bus station before each scheduled ferry departure, take about 20 minutes down the switchback road, and cost €2.70.
How it works in practice
The buses are timed to meet the ferries rather than a clock, and in practice you stand at the station until one turns up. Be at the Fira station at least an hour before your ferry, more in high season when the buses fill and a second one has to follow. The road down to the port is a series of hairpins and takes about 20 minutes; the bus sets you down by the ferry gates.
If your ferry leaves very early or very late, check the evening before whether a bus is being run for it; a taxi from Fira to the port is the fallback and takes 15 minutes.

- Pay the conductor on the bus, in cash; there are no seat numbers and no charge for luggage.
- In high season the queue at the port can be long after a big ferry; a second bus usually follows the first.
- Fira's bus station is an open yard off Theotokopoulou Square, a few minutes' walk from the caldera edge.
